Nourished by the Village: Celebrating Community, Care & Collective Power

There are moments that remind you exactly why you do the work you do.
For MelaMama Maternal Wellness, this year’s Nourished by the Village: A Community Resources Fair was one of those moments.
Held in celebration of Black Breastfeeding Week, the event brought together Black mothers, babies, families, community organizations, vendors, volunteers, and supporters for an afternoon centered around connection, resources, and community care.
A Village Coming Together
The theme for this year’s Black Breastfeeding Week was “We All We Got: Community, Care & Collective Power.”
That message came to life throughout the event.
From the moment families walked through the doors, there were opportunities to connect with organizations and community partners who are committed to supporting families.
The event created space for conversations, education, resources, and connections that can continue long after the event is over.
Because sometimes finding the right resource starts with simply knowing who is there for you.
More Than a Resource Fair
Nourished by the Village was created to be more than a place where people collect information.
It was a place to gather.
A place to meet people doing meaningful work in the community.
A place for families to discover resources that can support them through pregnancy, postpartum, breastfeeding, parenting, wellness, and beyond.
And most importantly, it was a reminder that community matters.
Why We Continue This Work
Every year, MelaMama continues to create space for Black families to connect and be supported.
And every year, we are reminded why this work matters.
Seeing mothers, babies, families, vendors, community partners, volunteers, and supporters all gathered together made our hearts full.
It showed us that when people are willing to show up, share their resources, and pour into one another, something powerful happens.
We build a village.
Thank You to Our Community
To every person who attended—thank you for showing up.
To our vendors and community partners—thank you for sharing your time, knowledge, services, and resources.
To our sponsors—thank you for believing in this vision and helping make the event possible.
To our volunteers—thank you for helping everything come together behind the scenes.
And to every mother and family who continues to navigate their own journey.
We see you, we celebrate you, and we are grateful to be part of your village.
Carrying the Message Forward
Black Breastfeeding Week may come to an end, but the work continues.
Supporting Black families means continuing conversations about breastfeeding, maternal wellness, access to resources, postpartum support, and the importance of community.
It means continuing to create spaces where families can connect with people who care.
And it means remembering that we all have a role in the village.
Nourished by the Village was one day, but the connections made and the community built can continue far beyond it.
From all of us at MelaMama Maternal Wellness, thank you for being part of the village. 🩷
We All We Got.
Community. Care. Collective Power.
